The second RRI-Practice consortium meeting in Paris

The second RRI-Practice consortium meeting was held on March 9-10 in Paris, hosted by CEA (the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission). The consortium partners reviewed the progress of project implementation, discussing the first findings from the national workshops, which were organized in all 12 partner countries during February and early March. The discussions focused on the following main issues: how responsibility and RRI are understood in different national contexts; how are the RRI Keys (Ethics, Engagement, Gender, Education, Open Access) and RRI dimensions (diversity, reflexivity, transparency, and responsiveness) manifested in policies and practices or workshop participants; which are the main drivers and barriers of RRI/responsibility; and which are examples of best practices. The consortium will use the key insights from the workshops to fine-tune the forthcoming activities (national interviews, focus groups and organizational studies).

A special guest at the meeting was Ignasi López Verdeguer, coordinator of RRI Tools project. Apart from presenting the project, Mr. Verdeguer provoked a lively dialogue about how RRI-Practice could build on the achievements of RRI Tools.

The task leaders in charge of designing potential indicators for the RRI keys presented their initial ideas on how to measure and evaluate the keys.

Before adjourning the meeting, participants discussed also the important questions of dissemination and management. The next consortium meeting is planned for September in Berlin.
