RRI workshop in the USA

28.02.2017

Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society hosted the U.S. national workshop on RRI-Practice on Monday, February 27th. The workshop brought together 26 stakeholders from the U.S. federal government, private sector, civil society, and academia. Responsible conduct in research and innovation was discussed from a wide variety of perspectives, with general agreement that past and current research and innovation practices open many avenues for positive transformation, both in the U.S. context and more widely. The day featured detailed analysis of some of the areas most urgently in need of attention. While there was some disagreement among the participants on the kinds of intervention that efforts to foster responsibility should include, areas of overlap emerged that provide valuable insight into how best practices for RRI in the U.S. might seek to better engage publics and open institutionalized spaces for broader and more inclusive public deliberation.
